The 2009 Gulyas Pot Christmas Contest Kicks Off

Lauer Learning and the Hungarian American Coalition Seek Compelling Hungarian Christmas Tales of Past or Present

ROSWELL, Ga - August 20, 2009 - Back by popular demand, the 2009 Gulyas Pot Christmas Contest was recently announced. This year, the call is for Hungarian American Christmas stories submitted by the Gulyas Pot community. Winners will receive a cash prize for this year's top three submissions.

Andrea Lauer Rice, president and founder of Lauer Learning, headquartered outside of Atlanta, urged Hungarian Americans of all ages to share in this enjoyable competition. “Last year we received a number of wonderful, rich stories about Hungarian and Hungarian American history, personal experiences, and cultural tales of the season,” she said. “This year will be even more rewarding because there is increased interest in sharing and chronicling Hungarian heritage on the Gulyas Pot website.”

The Gulyas Pot website provides a forum for Hungarian Americans everywhere and offers them a place to create their own content, interact with each other and network as a community. Lauer Learning and the Hungarian American Coalition (HAC) sponsored the creation of www.Gulyaspot.com, which is overseen by Lauer Learning, a multimedia educational company that creates innovative ways to teach children about history, foreign languages and culture.

According to Lauer Rice, submissions may be to any forum or participants can create their own. Entries can be video, audio, photo or text and must be in either English or Hungarian, with English translation. Some examples of topic areas include:

  • a write-up on Hungarian American history
  • a family history/story of immigration to the US
  • an example of how your family combines Hungarian and American traditions
  • a description of Hungarian holidays or traditions
  • a report on a recent Hungarian American event held in yourcommunity

The deadline is November 30 and the announcement for winners will be made before Christmas. All contest submissions will be posted on the site. Go to www.Gulyaspot.com for additional information.
